Deck & Patio Design – Beverly, MA

Project Description 

This elaborate deck and patio design in Beverly offers a shaded pergola as well as a deck and patio space for the owners to relax during sunny evenings. The deck renovation included a new patio that seamlessly transitions from the house to a new fire pit and entertainment area.

The design consists of four different seating zones throughout the backyard. Two of those zones are situated on the new deck. One of those is the outdoor dining area with a long dining table that comfortably seats six guests, a custom-built pergola, and a grill. The second is an uncovered area with lounge chairs where our client can get some sun during the summer.

Connected to the deck and extending toward the patio are two parallel bench seats that will seamlessly integrate with the new deck material and cleverly conceal extra storage space when lifted. A pathway of pavers leads to a chic firepit, complemented by modern patio furniture. Enhanced by vibrant flowers and lush plants, each space offers a stunning view, creating an inviting and immersive outdoor oasis.

Deck & Patio Project Plan

Our clients wanted to renovate their existing deck and make it larger to create a welcoming and relaxing space for them to enjoy the warm New England seasons. There was already an existing design we had created for their home, which included a dormer addition and balcony off of the master bedroom. The goal was to match the materials we had selected before and create an outdoor environment that would be cohesive and beautiful. The existence of a gas line on the property indicated the location of the new grill and dictated the organization of the areas.

Deck & Patio Project Results 

The final deck, patio, and landscape design not only met but exceeded our client’s expectations. To create a more inviting entertainment space, we carefully selected modern furniture that is not only functional and appealing but also of high quality to withstand outdoor elements. This modern furniture was selected through our sister company, Liviazi, which seamlessly blends in to complement the meticulously chosen landscape design. Every plant and flower bed is integrated in a manner that creates symmetry when viewing the backyard from the deck, with the firepit as the central focus. The journey from the deck through the pavers to the firepit was designed to evoke a promenade experience.

Challenges

The design team faced a challenge in designing a pergola that would be structurally supported by the existing property. We collaborated with a structural engineer to ensure that the deck and pergola’s structure is sound and will remain stable for many years without impacting the existing structure of the home and deck. With this structural change, we also had to make sure that the deck’s style and size aligned with the client’s expectations.
