This elaborate deck project in Beverly, MA, initially conceived as a comprehensive outdoor living design, has now been successfully completed. The finished space features a stunning deck and a custom-built shaded pergola, providing the homeowners with a sophisticated environment for relaxation and entertainment. This project represents the successful realization of the primary structural elements from our original design vision.

Completed Project Features

The completed deck offers distinct functional zones designed for the New England seasons. The main area features an outdoor dining space with a long table that comfortably seats six guests, sheltered by a custom-engineered pergola. A dedicated grilling station is strategically placed to utilize the property’s existing gas line.

Additionally, the deck includes an uncovered lounge area, perfect for sunbathing and enjoying the outdoors. Integrated into the deck’s structure are two parallel bench seats that provide both seating and clever concealed storage. The deck is accessed by a set of wide, inviting stairs that lead up from the lawn, creating a seamless connection to the backyard. The use of high-quality materials ensures that the deck is not only beautiful but also durable enough to withstand the elements for years to come.

Design Concept & Original Vision

Our original design for this Beverly residence was an ambitious plan to create a multi-faceted outdoor oasis. While the final construction focused on the primary deck structure, the initial design concept included:

•A seamless transition from the house to a secondary patio level.

•A pathway of pavers leading to a chic, built-in fire pit area.

•Integrated landscaping designed to create visual symmetry around the central fire pit.

•Built-in seating with concealed storage.

The goal was to match the materials previously selected for the home’s dormer addition and master balcony, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic across the entire property. While some elements like the firepit and storage benches were modified or not included in our final construction scope, we have successfully delivered the core functional and aesthetic components of this vision.

Project Results

The final deck construction has transformed the backyard into a premier entertainment space. We carefully selected modern furniture through our sister company, Liviazi, to complement the deck’s architecture and provide high-quality, functional seating. The result is a space that meets the client’s needs for a larger, more welcoming outdoor environment that integrates perfectly with the existing home’s style.

Challenges

A primary challenge was the structural engineering of the custom pergola. Our team collaborated with structural engineers to ensure the pergola was fully supported without compromising the integrity of the existing home or the new deck. This meticulous planning allowed us to deliver a safe, stable, and stylish structure that aligns with the client’s high expectations.
