This project is currently in design development in Peabody, MA, involving the conversion of an existing 1 ¾ story home into a full two-story residence through a second floor addition and expansion. The updated upper level remains within the overall building footprint while significantly improving usable living space and layout.
The design includes one new bathroom, two renovated bedrooms, and one renovated bathroom, along with new roofing and siding to unify the updated structure. Once completed, the project will transform the home into a fully realized two-story residence with improved functionality and updated exterior finishes.
Design Approach
The upper level is reworked with a new layout for the bedrooms and bathrooms, improving how the space is organized within the existing structure. New roofing and siding are included to tie the updated second floor back into the original home. The goal is a clean, cohesive transition between the old and new construction.
Challenges
As the project is currently in the design phase, the primary challenge is transforming an existing 1 ¾ story structure into a fully functional second floor while working within the constraints of the current building envelope. Additional attention is needed to integrate the new roof system and exterior siding with the existing construction, ensuring a seamless transition between original and new building elements while maintaining proper structural alignment and overall cohesion.
